A component of wine that gives it zip, usually from tartaric, malic or lactic acid. Acidity can be percieved by the sharpness of the wine on the palate, especially on the tip of the tongue.

A balance between wine elements where the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. An evenness in the combinations of acids, tannins and alcohol... acid counters sweetness, fruit counters tannins and alcohol counters acidity and flavor.

Wine that does not exhibit aroma or flavor usually due to low storage temperature or insufficient aging.

Phenolics that come from grape skins, pips and stalks that preserve wine and allow for the aging process. Tannins are percieved on the inside of the cheek.
